At Southern House Clothing we are dedicated to creating an inclusive online shopping experience for all customers. We strive to comply with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA and continuously assess our website to ensure it meets accessibility best practices.

 

What We’re Doing

  • Conducting regular audits, combining automated testing with manual reviews, to identify and fix accessibility issues . 
  • Improving keyboard navigation—ensuring all interactive elements (links, buttons, forms) are operable using Tab and Shift+Tab. 
  • Providing alternative text for images so screen readers convey meaningful content . 
  • Ensuring color contrast ratios meet or exceed WCAG standards (minimum 4.5:1 for normal text) . 
  • Adding clear form labels, descriptive error messages, and accessible instructions. 
  • Offering captions or transcripts for audio/video content where applicable. 
  • Ensuring focus indicators (e.g., outlines) are visible to assist keyboard and screen reader users.  
  • Avoiding reliance on overlays or widgets alone; instead, fixing underlying code—this is both more sustainable and legally safer. 

 

Known Limitations

Despite our best efforts, some areas may still fall short of ideal accessibility:

  • Occasional missing alt text on decorative images. 
  • Link text that may be too generic (e.g. “Click here”) and not descriptive enough for screen reader users. 
  • Some sections may not yet have complete WCAG AA-level compliance—we’re actively working on them. 
  • Older browsers or assistive technologies may still encounter minor display or navigation issues.

 

Ongoing Improvements

Accessibility is a continuous journey. We:

  • Review and update according to the latest WCAG standards. 
  • Utilize both automated tools and real-user testing, including individuals using assistive technologies. 
  • Track progress and prioritize fixes based on impact. 
  • Avoid shortcuts like third-party overlays that don’t address underlying code issues.
